Christmas is a time for relaxing and celebration. What sounds better than enjoying a warming glass of wine in a fire-warmed Sussex pub on a lazy Sunday? Very little, according to us. We have rounded up some of the best pubs you can visit this Christmas for a cozy winter supper.
If you want a pub with lavish decor, wines sourced from award-winning wineries, and decadent hearty food, you can’t go wrong with the Bull Ditchling. They offer some of the best roasted meats in the area and there are plenty of picturesque footpaths close by if you want to walk off some of those calories. Be sure to book ahead though because this pub gets packed during the Christmas period, and you don’t want to face any disappointment.
With its steep cobbled streets, Mermaid Street is an ancient sight to behold. Mermaid Inn was rebuilt in the 1500's and it's cellars date back to 1156! The lounge area is huge and warmed by an exquisite log fireplace. There is plenty of food to go around; both the restaurant and bar offer a good range of warming winter dishes.
Visiting this pub should be on your checklist this Christmas. The pub is surrounded by beautiful views, overlooking the Goodwood Estate. They have a large range of beers and wines to enjoy, alongside delicious gastro-pub food to satiate any ravenous appetites the cold brings.
This is a family-owned pub that has been operating since the 18th century. The bar area is beautiful, with an abundance of fine wines for you to try. The best part is that they only procure locally sourced ingredients for their food, so the whole menu is absolutely divine and one you will not regret trying out.
Situated at the foot of Devil’s Dyke, this pub attracts walkers and cyclists from all around the area; and offers a wide range of ales and craft beers, including those produced locally. In terms of food, you will find all your typical pub food, but done exceptionally well. One not to be missed this Christmas.
This traditional pub was first built in the 16th Century, has spectacular views across Chichester Harbour, and is well known for offering the best fish dishes in the area. Due to its location on Dell Quay marina, every fish dish on the menu is made using only the freshest locally-sourced fish. They offer a selection of wines and beers you can sip on while taking in the views; that can be seen for miles in all directions from many tables situated by the windows.
